Yes, Happy Couples Fight Too...

I've been married for over 10-years to a wonderful man. He's everything I ever wanted and I have absolutely no doubt he was God's gift to me. That said, I can describe our marriage as such: Loving. Passionate. Blessed. We still hold hands, talk on the phone for hours, miss each other relentlessly when we're not together, and love as if we only met yesterday. He is my definition of what perfection in a man looks like and I could never imagine my heart in the hands of another.

Even so, I have yet to find one marriage that is perfect. Two people living and sharing the same space, on a daily basis, forever is not something that is always easy to do. And, given that fact, we become prone to disagreements about different things (money, time spent together, paint color, etc.).

However, it isn't the disagreements that matter but rather how you manage those disagreements.

For years I watched my parents struggle to find the ability to communicate effectively. However, they couldn't find the solution to their problems without hurting one another and that made for a difficult marriage and, eventually, a painful divorce. Yet it also made me keenly aware of how quickly things can fall apart if you're not constantly working together towards the same goal.

You have to know yourself, your mate, and your boundaries if everything is going to work as you'd like. And you cannot allow the elements that exist outside of your home to influence the approach you take inside of it.

When single girlfriends ask me how we continue to make our marriage work, I tell them it's because, if nothing else, we know that at the end of the day, we belong to each other and there is no place else we'd rather be.

We start from there and let God help us with the rest.

REPOST: Take This Life and Live It

Sometimes it's hard to imagine a time when your life will no longer be relevant, however, two things that are quite certain about this life is that it has a beginning and an end.

The people we meet, the relationships we build with those people along the way, and the choices we make within the time we have here are what will help to shape our experience.

We will become a collection of the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of life, and the only thing any of us can ever hope for is the opportunity to live the best life possible—to be happy.

Despite what anyone might tell you, there isn't a prescription for happiness. Each individual will approach his/her life differently and therefore will find happiness in a much different way they you or I. Where one person might choose to fill their life with friendships and personal connections, another might find the same fulfillment in discovering all they can about the world—cherishing the discovery process.

In truth, the "how" doesn't matter. What matters is that you take the journey.

Our time upon this earth is undetermined and no one can be certain when the time to leave this life will come.

Treat each day as a blessing, collect each moment as if it were a ray of sunshine, and use those rays to illuminate the spirit within you, and never let that spirit be dimmed by any one or anything.

Video of the Week: Is This Woman For Real?...

Here's my take on Arnold Schwarzenegger's dalliances with what is seeming more and more like a multitude of women: he's a scumbag and deserves no mercy.

That said, I am utterly disgusted by the nerve of any woman who wants to offer an apology after she's admitted to having an ongoing affair with another woman's husband. Granted, it was Arnold's responsibility to protect and respect the vows he took when he made the decision to marry Maria Shriver, but shouldn't there be some measure of dignity and honor coming from these alleged other women as well?

Perhaps my error here is in believing that there should be more respect, as a society, for the sanctity of marriage.

If a man or woman is unhappy in his union, that is not an excuse for infidelity. If it gets to that point, I feel, they need to let their significant other know about it so that they are allowed the option of either leaving the marriage or taking the necessary steps to fix what's broken in the relationship. However, none of that can happen if some lonely heart is waiting in the wings throwing dirt on your vows.

Sure, there are some who, at least in this case, would actually blame Maria for perceived short-comings in her ability to keep her husband close but, on the real, let's be more intelligent about this situation. Any woman who chose to entertain Arnold's demands, with full knowledge of his situation, is simply a woman with poor morals or below average self-esteem.

That being said, I am loathe to have any appreciation for this particular female's audacity in offering up an apology to Maria for "...the mistakes I made in the past and for being intimate with your husband..." and to then have the nerve to ask for forgiveness while in the same breath knowing she's about to try and cash in on her 15 minutes...despicable. If anything, she's happy for the opportunity to make a dishonest dollar off the pain and suffering of others.

Sorry, but there's simply no honor in that act.

Take a look at this woman's interview and tell me if she looks sorry to you.

Give me a break, lady. I hope, for Maria's sake, this classless nightmare ends soon.
