Lady Gaga As The Next Oprah...For Real?
I don't know if Lady Gaga is the next Oprah or not, but I know Oprah Winfrey has definitely left some big shoes to fill. Here, one last look at her impact, her influence, and her legacy.

So Long, Oprah...
Let me start this entry by saying I was never an everyday watcher of The Oprah Winfrey Show. I'd DVR the show daily and then cherry-pick the ones that interested me the most. That said, the show has been an intricate part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I was in elementary school when it first aired and now, married and a mother of two children, I sat riveted as I watched this institution of a show—and there can be no denying that it was just that—come to an end.
I'll admit, I shed a few tears as the studio went dark and Oprah exited for the very last time. I shed them because I realized I would miss her voice, her energy, her presence, and her awe-inspiring ability to convey a genuinely positive message to women everywhere and I feel no hesitation when I say there will never be another like her.
And today's show was the ultimate gift in that Oprah offered one final lesson of encouragement for all of us.
Some may have taken offense to it's overtly spiritual tone, but I appreciated her candidness and her decision to, once and for all, give glory to Him.
4:00, Monday through Friday, will never be the same for me as, for the first time in 25-years, watching Oprah will no longer be an option. Even so, I feel eternally grateful to have been a part of this moment in history and it has been my pleasure to play the role of spectator to this self-made woman of God's success as she inspired millions to know what's possible if you just allow yourself to shine.
So, goodbye Oprah...until we meet again.

Holding Her OWN—Oprah Makes An Impressive Debut
Let me go on the record and say I'm not one of those Oprah fanatics. You know the type—the ones that would buy a keychain made out of moth balls because she said it was the "best thing ever".No, I'm more of a casual Oprah fan. I admire all she's accomplished as both talk show host and philanthropist—but I'm not about to start funneling my extra money to the Angel Network.
That said, I did find myself intrigued to see what her new network, OWN, would bring to the media landscape.
I, for one, wasn't interested in seeing an inordinate amount of stories like those you often find on The Oprah Winfrey Show, which has seemingly become the place to go for some of the more troubling and depressing topics of this decade—particularly those centering around abuse and incest.
However, at the same time, I was willing to give her new network venture a chance because I fit her audience profile. I have become disillusioned with television's overall quality over the last five years and long for something better as an alternative. There is entirely too much reality television and not nearly enough substance to be found on the airwaves and it would be nice to have a choice.
So, when OWN debuted on January 1st, I tuned in to see what Oprah's next chapter looks like, and I was pleasantly rewarded with a refreshing brand of television.
One of the more standout shows was Oprah's Master's Class, on which Jay-Z was first up in offering his reflections on life and what it takes to be a success:
It was captivating to watch and it's a series that definitely seems to have legs with Condoleeza Rice, Maya Angelou, and Simon Cowell all appearing at some point.
Other shows with meat include, Searching For... and Kidnapped By The Kids, both center around the importance of family, and making connections with those most important in our lives.
The documentary covering her final season hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show is also entertaining. It's a bit like being a fly on the wall in her daily life—certainly it's a watered-down snapshot, but it offers enough of a glimpse that you get the idea of how much hard work goes into making her show the success it has become over the year.
OWN definitely has promise and I will be re-visiting the channel often—eager to see what else Ms. Winfrey has to offer.

Day 13: What Will Your Legacy Be?...
As we get older and become more settled in the lives we've chosen, we start to wonder what our mark on the world will be. Have we done anything important? Have we made an impact? What will our legacy be once we're gone and only the memory of us remains?
Can we be proud of what we're leaving behind?
In all honesty, most of us will never have the impact that a Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, or Bono have had on this world. Our resources simply aren't that vast and our reach not that substantial. That said, the biggest influence any one of us can have doesn't lie in our pockets or our popularity but, rather, in the example we set for others.
The way you live your life can be of great influence to those around you. Your decision to live with integrity might become the catalyst for another's decision to do so—and who knows how their decisions will, ultimately, impact and influence the world.
A legacy is wonderful to have—who doesn't want a little recognition at the end of the day—but you should strive to live your life as purposefully as possible.
By doing so, you impact the development of all who know you and, at the end of the day, the memory of you will be a gift and a motivator for those who never knew their own potential. No monuments or buildings may be dedicated in your name, but your legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of the many you touch along the way.
Be someone you can be proud of everyday, the rest will take care of itself.
